BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After a day off Wednesday, the UAB football team returned to practice Thursday morning, working out in shorts and helmets for approximately an hour and a half at the UAB practice field.
“We weren’t able to get a lot done this week because of the weather,” head coach Neil Callaway said. “We practiced Tuesday and today in shorts. The good thing [about the days off] is that we ought to be rested.”
The Blazers (2-3, 2-1 C-USA) have Friday and Saturday off, but will return to practice Sunday to continue preparations to face Ole Miss (3-1, 1-1 SEC) on Oct. 17 in Oxford, Miss. The game will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
“We’re going to come back and practice Sunday, which we normally don’t do,” Callaway said.  “But after missing all the time that we did this week, we’re going to practice in shorts and helmets on Sunday and then after that we’ll be back in our normal routine.”
The Oct. 17 matchup will kick off a series of three road games for the Blazers, marking their longest road stint of the season. UAB will not return to Legion Field until Nov. 7 to face Florida Atlantic.
The UAB-Ole Miss game has been picked up by Fox Sports South with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
