ARCA Driver Michael Phelps was a Talladega testing for the fall race.

(Talladega, AL) Michael Phelps took part in testing at the Talladega Superspeedway on Thursday. No, not the Olympic swimmer that won 8 gold medals at the Beijing Olympics, but an up and coming rookie driver in the ARCA RE/MAX series.
Though he doesn’t mind sharing the same name as the successful Olympian, Phelps is busy trying to put his stamp on the racing world. “He may have won 8 gold medals, but he’s not faster than me, I drive 200 mph” Phelps said.
Phelps is in his first year of the ARCA RE/MAX series as the driver of the #45 Bowen Family Homes Dodge. The Suwannee, GA native begin his racing career driving late models all over the southeast. He is currently a contender for the 2008 SunTrust Rookie of the Year. Phelps best finish was ninth at Pocono, after starting the race in 14th position. He currently is 15th in the points standings.
Phelps has never tested at Talladega and was taken back by the high banking in the corners. When he returns for the ARCA RE/MAX series race in October it will mark his first speedway race.
The ARCA RE/MAX race will take place on October 3rd.
