AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Eltoro Freeman gave Auburn’s thin linebacking corps a boost.

Freeman had 12 tackles against No. 9 LSU after returning to the Tigers’ starting lineup. He had missed the Arkansas trip for what coach Gene Chizik described as personal issues and had been relegated mostly to special teams after logging three starts.

Chizik said Freeman was ready to play football when he returned in whatever role the coaches asked.

Freeman started against LSU in place of Adam Herring, who Chizik said was “banged up.“

The 5-11, 219-pound sophomore had only seven tackles in Auburn’s first seven games. He had one more than that by halftime against LSU, and finished with a sack and two tackles for loss.

The Tigers host No. 24 Mississippi on Saturday.
