Alabama Receiver Suspended

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Alabama redshirt freshman receiver
Brandon Gibson of Mobile will be suspended for the Crimson Tide’s
first two games due to an accidental secondary NCAA rules
violation.
Gibson signed with the Tide out of UMS-Wright in 2007. The
university’s compliance department discovered that he unknowingly
committed a violation while still in high school by accepting a
ride to an Alabama sporting event from a friend whose dad was a UA
booster.
Alabama officials self-reported the ride to the NCAA last year.
UA associate athletics director for compliance Mike Ward said
Gibson and his friend had been friends since ninth grade and that
Gibson “unintentionally committed this infraction.“
Technically, NCAA rules were violated because the pre-existing
relationship didn’t exist before Gibson entered high school.
