HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Alabama athletic director Mal Moore is expecting to receive a verdict from the NCAA’s Committee on Infractions “relatively soon” concerning free textbooks.

Alabama is waiting to find out what penalties will arise from athletes improperly obtaining free textbooks for other students. The NCAA has indicated the violations were potentially major.

The university reported the violations after uncovering them during the 2007 football season, when five players were suspended.

Moore told The Huntsville Times that he felt the compliance staff had performed “unbelievably well in a tough situation.“

The university appeared before the infractions committee on Feb. 20 and acknowledged that infractions occurred in several sports and that it didn’t adequately monitor its distribution of textbooks to athletes.
