Saban: Fortunate that wounded player Deaderick not worse
Published: September 1, 2009
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Alabama coach Nick Saban says it’s fortunate that a Crimson Tide football player wasn’t hurt worse when he was shot during an apparent robbery attempt.
Saban said Tuesday the team is concerned with the recovery of Brandon Deaderick, not about when the defensive end will return to football.
Deaderick was shot in the arm during what Tuscaloosa police describe as a robbery attempt at an off-campus apartment on Monday night. He’s hospitalized in a private room in good condition.
Deaderick is expected to have a major role on defense during the upcoming season for the fifth-ranked Crimson Tide. Last year, he had four sacks in 14 starts.

While I am glad that he’s not dead today, I want to know why this is such a big deal and why it’s getting headlines all over the local media?
Are our priorites so out of whack that a UA football player who gets shot during an attempted robbery is headline news over more important issues like deadly viruses and corrupt government?
People are shot all over this state every day, people are murdered every day….where are there headlines? Are they less important because they don’t run up and down a field and throw or catch a football?
He’s a ball player…. SO WHAT?
Wow.
