Alabama starts season at No. 5 in coaches’ poll

It’s been said there’s only a handful of teams that have a realistic shot at winning the national championship when the college football season begins.

If that truly is the case, then Alabama has to be considered one of those teams.
The USA Today preseason coaches’ poll was released Friday and Alabama checks in at No. 5, certainly high enough to make a run at its 13th national championship. Alabama was a preseason No. 9 when it won national championship No. 12 back in 1992.

Florida, Texas, Oklahoma and Southern Cal—four current powerhouse programs that have all won national titles this decade—are the only teams ranked ahead of the Crimson Tide.
