AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Auburn freshman safety DeRon Furr has left the team after two positions switches and a recent practice scuffle.

Coach Tommy Tuberville said Tuesday that Furr was leaving the team.  The coach didn’t give a reason for the player’s decision.

Furr enrolled in January and went through most of spring practice at quarterback, the position he played in high school.

He spent the final spring practice at receiver and moved to defensive back over the summer for a better shot at playing time.

Furr was involved in a practice fight on the first day of fall practice last weekend. He didn’t participate in another workout.

The decision impacts Auburn’s depth at safety with starter Aairon Savage suffering a knee injury.
