HOOVER — Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer has been subpoenaed in an Alabama court case after arriving in suburban Birmingham to talk about football at Southeastern Conference media days.
The Tuscaloosa News reports that Fulmer was served with the document Thursday before entering a hotel ballroom to speak before hundreds of sports writers.

Attorneys are seeking his sworn statements in a lawsuit filed by former Crimson Tide booster Wendell Smith against the NCAA.

Fulmer participated in SEC media days by telephone from Tennessee four years ago. That move let him avoid coming to Alabama and possibly being forced to testify in another case involving an NCAA investigation of the Crimson Tide.
