Storms have weakened and shifted off to the east.
It feels a lot different when you step outside tonight, compared to the way it did earlier Friday. Temperatures have fallen more than 20 degrees from the afternoon highs, and it seems like we have shifted seasons. The reason for the change? Well a strong cold front crossed Alabama, accompanied by showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms were briefly severe, and several severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings were issued. There were a few reports of damage, mostly of the tree and power line variety. The storms weakend Friday evening and shifted eastward, and there is no threat of additional severe weather overnight.
The forecast for the rest of the weekend presents many challenges. We know it is not going to be bright and sunny, and we know Saturday will be considerably cooler than Friday was. Beyond that, it is a tough forecast. There is not much rain immediately upstream from us, and I don’t expect anything more than a few sprinkles overnight. A weak disturbance in the upper atmosphere, may work on some of the moisture in place and provide a few periods of rain or drizzle Saturday or Saturday night, though I could see it just being mainly cloudy.
Same deal for Sunday…there may be a period of rain, but it is not a definite thing.
I think the first part of the work week will bring more rain.
