Remarkably cold weather for April
All of central Alabama is looking especially beautiful right now with the azaleas in bloom and trees budding into full leaf. Its a pretty time of year, and lets just hope most things survive the next 2 nights.
The issue tonight will be the wind and cold, but not frost. Tomorrow night will be much calmer and therefore frost may be much more of a concern. There is a significant chance this is the last real blast of winter, so it may just pay to bring any tender plants in through daybreak Wednesday, if you have the option of doing so. Now given the persistent wind tonight, low temperatures will be fairly uniform across the area with the ridge tops generally being the coldest locations. I would look for about 28 in Haleyville, 29 in Fort payne, 30 in Gadsden, about 32 in Tuscaloosa, Birmingham and Anniston, and just above freezing further south. Tomorrow night will feature a much greater spread in low temperatures, and I am expecting the valley locations to be several degrees colder than the ridge tops. Lows will range from 25 to 32 across the area.
During tonight there is enough low-level moisture for some scattered sprinkles, and even a few snow flurries, with the best chance for anything over the northeast corner.
During Tuesday, the clouds will gradually give way to sunnier skies, the Wednesday looks like a very nice day with sunshine and highs near 70. But the high activity pattern gets back in high gear with more showers and storms Thursday night and especially Friday.
