More sunshine and then some more rain

It sure was nice to have all the sunshine again today, and right off the bat, I can confidently say that we will enjoy plenty more sunshine for our Friday.
Now it will turn colder tonight, and although the temperature will not fall to freezing in all sections late Thursday night, it will in parts of the area, especially from I-20 on northward.  Obviously we were soaking wet 2 days ago with several inches of rain across the entire area, and some of the runoff continues, and in some spots, that runoff still spills over onto area roadways.  Where it does and where the temperature falls to freezing tonight, sspotty ice will form and that will lead to some slippery spots, mainly betwee 3 and 8 am.  Probably nothing super-widespread, but potentially troublesome for drivers in some areas in the morning.
Otherwise another nice day Friday, then we deal with another low pressure area and cold front Saturday.  Clouds will increase Friday night, and then some showers will move through on Saturday.  Most all spots will get some rain, and average rainfall totals will be in the 1/4 to 1/2 inch range.  That should not be enough to seriously exacerbate the on-going flooding.  Just enough instability will enter the picture to promote a few scattered thunderstorms as well.
Sunday and Monday will be dry and chilly.  Sometime next week, that huge mass of frigid arctic air will make a major move from Canada and the northern states, and start arriving in Dixie.  Timing that move is a major challenge, and it looks like I might have been a bit too fast with its arrival with my last forecast.  Still temperatures will trend downward during the middle and latter parts of next week, and if the timing of the coldest air coincides with a batch of precipitation, we could see a mixture of rain, ice and snow.  That is only in the possibility column right now, and a lot of things will have to happen for that to come about, so please stay tuned.
