Here we go again….another big rainstorm is moving in.
Over 2.70 inches of rain fell in Birmingham yesterday, and we may well get something like that amount again during tonight and tomorrow. Another soaking wet low pressure will move across central Alabama over the next 24 hours. Rain will overspread the area this evening, and will become heavy at times late tonight and at least part of our Wednesday. The heaviest accumulations of rain will likely along and north of the I-20 corridor. I expect average amounts of 2 to 4 inches, but would not be at all surprised if a few places receive in excess of 5 inches. With the ground already saturated, that much rain will lead to some flash flooding again, and there will be significant impacts to tomorrow morning’s rush hour. Rivers are already running high, and the combination of the rain that fell yesterday and the additional rain coming will cause more river flooding the rest of the week and into the weekend.
More rain will fall on Thursday, though I don’t think amounts will be as heavy.
Beyond Thursday, Canadian air will flow southward, drying us out, and also making it turn cooler, especially at night, with lows in the 40’s.
