Great election eve out there
It is a clear, cool night across central Alabama as we get ready to vote in a new President. And at least here, the weather will really encourage people to get to the polls. It will clear overnight with temperatures in Birmingham settling down toward 50. Once again there will be a large spread overnight from urban areas to countryside spots with some of the cooler places like Blountsville getting down to the low 40’s. Election Day will feature a good supply of sunshine with temperatures recovering to the middle 70’s. It still looks like the cold front arrives Friday with a few showers and a thunderstorm or two, followed by dry, cooler weather over the weekend.
I went home tonight to eat supper after the 6 pm newscast, and on the way back, I was treated to a view of a rather spectacular meteor, or shooting star. I was traveling west on highway 280, and the meteor was visible looking out beyond the Birmingham Water Works reservoir. It was a bright green in color and was quite impressive. It may have been a renegade, or perhaps part of the South Taurids. Truly one of the rare treats of nature!
