East Coast Being Hit By Strong Winds, High Surf

A developing low pressure area off the North Carolina coast is turning into a powerful wind maker.  Not really tropical by strict definition, the storm is generating hurricane force wind gusts on its north and northeast quandrants.  Those winds are in turn stirring the waters of the Atlantic and the result is a very active surf along the coast from South Carolina to Long Island.  And that surf will only get rougher with time.  This is a difficult call for the National Hurricane Center.  They may choose to name it a tropical storm;  after all its winds are plenty strong enough.  On the other hand it is not really tropical in in structure, so they may continue to just call it a sub-tropical system.  Either way it makes for some very active weather.
Just about all of the effects of that storm will stay east of us.  But with time it will expand westward enough to send some clouds our way mostly in the Friday night through Saturday night time frame.  I doubt any rain makes it to Alabama, though I cannot rule out a shower in some of our far eastern counties.
In the meantime, beautiful weather continues through Friday with cooler nightime lows on tap.  A real shot of cool air will arrive about the middle of next week.
