Don’t put the umbrellas and rain gear away yet.
Heavy rain caused flooding and other problems early today. The morning rush hour was just a mess with numerous wrecks being reported. Fortunately it was Columbus Day and at least the traffic volume was down. Rain continues across central Alabama and I don’t really expect it to completely end tonight. It will be lighter and more intermittent though, and so additional flash flooding is not expected tonight.
We are certainly not done with the heavy-duty weather. Two more major systems will hit this weekend. After just a few scattered showers tomorrow, heavier showers and a few thunderstorms will move through tomorrow night into Wednesday. I don’t think rainfall rates will match what we saw Monday morning, but it will be enough to keep things wet.
Then after a brief break, I expect another system to bring more rain Thursday.
Behind the Thursday event will come a shot of much drier and significantly cooler weather. We will likely see the 40’s for lows each night from Friday night through Sunday night.
