Cold Front Right On Schedule
Scanning the weather maps tonight, I do not see any reasons to make major forecast changes. Skies are currently clear with a big, bright moon providing plenty of light. Satellite pictures show high clouds advancing eastward into Mississippi now, and some of these will show up in our skies before daybreak. Temperatures will settle down into the low 60’s.
Thursday will feature increasing cloudiness with highs between 75 and 80. A few widely scattered showers may develop during the afternoon over the western half of the area. I think the most likely time for rain with the approaching cold front will be Thursday night into Friday morning. There is a fairly robust-looking band of rain with the front now, but I feel it is likely to weaken a bit by the time it arrives here. So I don’t want to promise any big amounts, since I think average amounts across central Alabama will be .25” or less.
Skies will begin to clear out later Friday and the weekend will be dry with generally sunny skies.
The combination of clouds and a northwest wind behind the front will make Friday a lot cooler, then the weekend will bring chilly nights and cool days. The daily temperature range will be generally from about 50 in the mornings to about 73 or so in the afternoons.
