Cold front arriving on schedule. Much cooler air moving in for the next few days.
Its been another rainy day with some locally heavy downpours again and generally overcast skies. Today’s action was caused by a cold front that has passed through Tupelo Mississippi and Muscle Shoals, Alabama, but has not made it through most of our viewing area yet. It will come through this evening, and so we will have a few more showers. Once the front clears the area, northerly winds will take over, and that will begin the chilling process. Its currently near 60 in Memphis and in the middle 50’s at Nashville, and this air mass will make a profound difference in how it feels around here. By morning we will be down to near 50. Temperatures tomorrow will only recover to the middle or upper 50’s, then fall down to the low 40’s tomorrow night. Saturday will be another chilly day with highs in the upper 50’s. Low temperatures Saturday night-Sunday morning will be in the upper 30’s to about 40 in Birmingham and similar numbers are expected Sunday night-Monday morning. Those numbers will be marginally cold enough for scattered light frost, especially in the sheltered valleys, and especially on Sunday night when winds will be lighter. There will be some lingering clouds tomorrow and Saturday, and maybe even a few sprinkles or a brief passing shower. Then Sunday and Monday will feature plenty of sunshine.
