Another strong shot of cold air headed our way.
A quick glance at current temperatures across central Alabama reveals the challenge of predicting temperatures this time of year. At 9pm the official temperature at Anniston was 31 degrees, while it was 43 at Birmingham and at Tuscaloosa. Same air mass, same lack of wind, same time of day, but a dozen-degree difference! It will likely even out somewhat overnight, but there will still undoubtedly be a marked contrast in low temperatures across the area by morning.
If you are not a fan of cold weather you will probably enjoy Thursday afternoon as it will warm to about 60 under mostly sunny skies. And enjoy it you should, because it will not last. Another surge of cold air arrives Thursday night, and by Friday morning we will all be below freezing again. And Friday will be another very cold day with a gusty north wind and temperatures only rising to the middle 40’s.
The weekend will offer a gradual turn toward more moderate weather with highs up in the 50’s Saturday and near 60 on Sunday. It will stay dry and rather sunny over the weekend, with showers (finally) a good bet on Monday.
