A Good Soaking

Most spots across central Alabama were soaked with more than an inch of rain this morning.  Some places like Haleyville received more than 2 inches.  And it was sorely needed!  Of course it would have been even better had it not hit some areas during the morning rush hour, but hey we can’t complain…at least it did not fall over the weekend.
Its an unusual set up on the current weather map…one that has caused the report of at least one funnel cloud in Marion county this afternoon, and similar reports from other parts of northwest Alabama earlier.  The change in temperature from the ground on up is just sharp enough to cause a few thunderstorms to develop within shower clusters.  And those thunderstorms have shown some tendency to rotate leading to the funnel cloud reports and even 1 report of some wind damage to trees.  With sunset approaching, that tendency will diminish over the next few hours.
The rain will be gone overnight, but some fog will form.  We will generally dry out Thursday, but clouds will linger at least for awhile, though I do think there will be some afternoon sunshine.
During the period from Friday through Sunday, I expect no rain, and there will be intervals of sunshine with temperatures heading higher.  However there will be some lingering clouds.
