Another Chilly Night

Another Chilly Night

Sunshine stays for awhile

After a stretch of cloudy and wet weather, the sunshine has finally reappeared.

Sunny & Cool Today

Sunny & Cool Today

October 16, 2009

Cold air settling in for the weekend.

Coldest temperatures likely late Sunday night and Monday morning.  And at that time, the lack of wind and clear skies will creat the highest chance of frost formation.

Cold air settling in for the weekend with first frost of the season likely Monday morning.

A large cold Canadian air mass covers much of the eastern half of the country, and its a slow mover, and will certainly be the main weather player here through the weekend.

A chilly, damp day

October 15, 2009

Rain almost done, and here comes the cold air.

Much colder air is just starting to flow into central Alabama from the north.  By morning most areas will be down to near 50, and that is just the beginning.

Cold front arriving on schedule.  Much cooler air moving in for the next few days.

Rain not quite done yet as some more showers will fall tonight, especially before midnight.  And over the next two days, there is a chance of a little drizzle or a few sprinkles.  Bottom line though is that we are transitioning from a humid, rainy pattern into a cooler, drier one.

Afternoon Showers and T’storms

Afternoon Showers and T’storms

October 14, 2009

We have one more batch of rain to get through then it will be like November in October.

Get set for a real change as the atmopshere will be drying out and chilling down.  We will see the 40’s for 4 nights in a row, and we will finally get a chance for the ground to dry out some.

Break in the weather pattern right around the corner.

We have one more round of rain to get through and that comes tomorrow.  It will be followed by a prolonged period of drier, cooler weather.

October 13, 2009

Rain spreading eastward, finally, and it will be wet into Wednesday morning.

Once this rain tapers off around midday Wednesday, we will have a brief break until the next system arrives Thursday.  Beyond that one will come a genuine drying trend for Friday and the weekend.

Here we go again….another big rainstorm is moving in.

Fortunately the end to this excessively wet pattern is not far away, as much drier air will overspread the area starting Friday.

Rain is moving back in today

The rain will be moving back in later today and will still be around has we head to work and school Wednesday morning.

October 12, 2009

Break in the rain, but don’t get used to it….the wet weather is far from over.

The potential is there for more flooding Tuesday night into Wednesday as another very wet system crosses central Alabama.  Fortunately the significant drying trend is still on tap for the weekend.

Don’t put the umbrellas and rain gear away yet.

Two more major systems will bring more rain this week, and probably more flooding problems.  Much drier and cooler weather will arrive before the weekend gets here.

Flash flood watch

Close to three inches of rain has already fallen across part of the area and with more rain in the forecast for this afternoon there will continue to be a flash flooding threat.

October 11, 2009

Rain headed our way from Louisiana and Mississippi.

Its going to be a wet morning rush hour and this will be only “round 1” this week in terms of rain.  Two more systems will come our way during the work week.

Get ready for a wet week with three opportunities for getting rain.

Your umbrella will be one of your best friends this week as several systems come our way.  Each of them will be loaded with moisture, so heavy rainfall totals are likely, at least in parts of the viewing area.

Rainy forecast

An umbrella needs to be available at all times for the upcoming week.

October 10, 2009

Quiet weather for now, but it will not be lasting very long.

Rain returns early in the work week, and eventually we will deal with another strong cold front that will bring more showers and storms and also usher in a much cooler air mass.

October 09, 2009

Storms have weakened and shifted off to the east.

Moist pattern remains, and there is a chance of some more rain over the rest of the weekend.

Severe thunderstorms

Severe thunderstorms are expected for the area this afternoon and tonight.

October 08, 2009

Very summerlike outside now…likely to be very wet by this time Friday.

Cold front moving our way, and with it will come showers and thunderstorms.  At least the first half of the weekend will be wet, with some showers likely to continue into Sunday.  Along with the rain will come a modest cool-down.

Still looks like wet weather for much of the weekend.

Before the rain gets here, unseasonably warm conditions will be the rule with temperatures at near summertime levels.  Once the rain moves in, it will cool down some.

More summerlike

Short sleeves and short pants are in order for the next two days.

October 07, 2009

Quiet Wednesday night in progress, but changes due before the weekend gets here.

Mainly dry weather will hold for Thursday, but a slow moving front will be the main weather maker for the weekend, and that means rain, probably starting Friday night and lasting through Saturday.

Break in the rain will be short-lived, as another wet system will approach for weekend.

Uneventful weather through most of tomorrow, although there may be some fog later tonight and there could be a shower tomorrow afternoon.

Drier afternoon

The humidity has dropped and temperatures will feel more comfortable for this afternoon.
