Time for fall planting?

» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

The weather is getting cooler now, especially the nighttimes.  Many of my marigolds and other annuals are still in full bloom, but you know that will not last much longer.  I have already noticed some neighbors planting mums in their yards.  Mums do look great with lots of vibrant color-but I am not sure if you really get your money’s worth.  Maybe I am doing something wrong, but my mums never bloom again.  That first burst of color is beautiful, but usually that is it.  I have decided this year I am going to save my money and just go right to the winter plants-pansies and cabbages.  I usually wait for the obvious clue as to when to do this-the pros that landscape my neighborhood.  Yesterday they started pulling out the summer time plants and replace them with pansies.  I guess this means it’s time for me to do this as well. While it’s cool and comfortable I usually also replace the pine straw in the beds.  Winter is just around the corner!
