Summertime project

There are many options when it comes to treating a deck or fence.  It’s important to let the deck or fence dry-especially if it is pressure treated lumber.  There are many shades of color to choose from when electing a sealing stain.  One options is no color-just a clear penetrating sealer.  This will protect the wood from rot, mildew and the sun while helping to maintain it’s natural appearance.  I personally prefer some of the colored sealers.  They come in many different shades and colors.  I am in the middle of sealing my backyard fence.  This project is taking longer than I intended (what project doesn’t, for that matter).  Hopefully I can finish at least one side of the fence before my vacation which is coming up in two weeks.

There are several ways you can apply a sealer.  Some require a “non-air” sprayer…leave this to the pros.  Another option is to use a sprayer-much like a bug sprayer.  I have found this can cause a mess with over-spray and running.  The best way is to roll or brush on.  Shadow-box fences or other items that have lots of ins-and-outs can be difficult with a long roller.  I have been using a 6 inch roller to hit every board-then brush the in-between areas.

By the way-look for blog entries every day about my journey to Paris and then to the UAE and Dubai,I leave July 30, returning on August 7.

Also, August is tile month here on the blog.  If you have thought about starting a tile project soon I will sharing some ideas, hints, and cost cutting tips here on the blog.
