Want to be diplomatic this election year? Try the Diplomat Deli
Election Day is behind us, and if you’re like me, you’ve gone into political withdrawal. To get your diplomatic quick fix complete with warm sandwiches, hot soups and cold beer, visit the Diplomat Deli in Vestavia Hills.
The deli and package store has been there for more than 20 years, so you can bet countless conversations about politics have taken place over tasty sandwiches aptly named The Senator, The Hawaiian (even more appropriate since the President-Elect was born in Hawaii) and The Old Favorite.
When it comes to beer, you’ll be hard pressed to find a more extensive and unbiased selection. There’s American beer from Sam Adams to Rolling Rock, imports from Guinness to Old Speckled Hen and you’ll also find a beer named after Bavarian monks called Franziskaner.
And the soups! Oh the soups! The soup of the day could be Potato, Tomato or Chili, but no matter what it is, believe me, it’s worth it.
My vote goes to The Senator, Potato soup and a Franziskaner, but don’t try it just because I said so. Go out and get the facts! Make a campaign run to the Diplomat Deli with a few of your friends, choose your table and order a bunch of sandwiches to share. Then go to the wall of beer and make your selection. Remember, it’s about being diplomatic, so try a few before casting your final vote. And whether your candidate wins or not, rest assured the Diplomat Deli will be there for another 20 years, serving up your favorite.
