Totally Stoked About Baha Burger
Don’t let its calm exterior fool you. Baha Burger is a totally awesome place to catch some tasty burgers!
If Taziki’s is my superhero, then Baha Burger is its tasty surfer-dude sidekick. Baha Burger is located right next door to Taziki’s in the Colonnade on Highway 280. It’s fresh, gourmet burgers are cooked right before your eyes in the galley-style kitchen. It’s the same way owner Keith Richards does things at Taziki’s except here there’s no Greek décor; it’s nothing but bonzer surfer gear.
The restaurant dons surfboards, grass skirts, big wave art and a giant wide-screen TV that constantly plays totally awesome surfer dudes hanging ten. No cheater fives here. The surfers on the screen may wipe out on occasion, but this restaurant is always gnarly.
You can pick from Angus, pork, chicken, salmon, lamb or turkey for your burger. There’s even a veggie burger with a monster grilled Portobello mushroom and eggplant along with tasty caramelized Vidalia onions and rockin’ roasted red peppers.
There are a few pre-selected combos for burgers, but I like the B.Y.O.B. section. (Build Your Own Burger) There are 10 different cheeses, 10 spreads, nine “tops”, four “leaves” and three types of buns from which to choose. If my math is correct, that means you have 10,800 different combinations and that’s just if you had one from each category! Whoa, dude. My favorite right now is Certified Angus Ground Chuck with blue cheese, Alecia’s Peach Chutney, and Cucumbers on an Onion Kaiser Roll ($7.50). But you could have a turkey burger with havarti cheese, tomato chutney and grilled golden pineapple with spinach on a wheat rosette ($7.25). Or you could have a lamb burger with feta cheese, basil pesto, arugula and mushrooms on a Kaiser bun ($6.50). Or if you’re not feeling gnarly hunger pains, try the Baby Baha Burgers for ($4.25). The menu says for children 12 and under only, but my mom orders it every time she goes. Maybe the staff thinks she’s 12; we do kind of look like sisters.
When it comes to sides, you have three, no four, included options. There’s fresh cantaloupe—you get two slices. Then there are regular fries, sweet potato fries or you can order half and half. The fries come with a splash of fried okra—the best part. There are desserts, too, although I’ve never had any room left to try one: Homemade Key Lime Pie ($2.50), or if you want to feel like a kid again, Ice Cream Cups ($1).
If you’re not certain you’ll try this totally awesome joint because surfing intimidates you, don’t worry, it’s ok if you’re a poser. The staff at Baha Burger doesn’t require that you know how to surf to eat there, just that you’re totally stoked about their burgers.
