Avoid a party foul. Score a touchdown with these football party tips
Football season has arrived and that means it’s time to either make football food or eat it. No matter what side of the field you’re on, ponying up some dough will score you big points at the next football viewing party. But you don’t have to spend a lot of time or money to make those football fans happy. Here are a few greasy, cheap favorites for your next football party.
1. EZ Cleanup Rotel Dip: We’ve all had it and most of us have made it, but I’ve got a few tips that will make keeping it warm and cleaning it up a breeze. Get out your crock pot. Line it with an oven safe plastic bag (you can find them in the section with the freezer bags). Cook a pound of breakfast sausage in a skillet, drain. Then put one can of mild Rotel, one can of hot Rotel and a log of processed cheese into the crock pot along with the cooked sausage. Set it on high until your guests arrive, then turn it to low. When they’ve licked the bowl clean, remove the oven safe plastic bag and toss. Cleanup is done!
2. Bring Your Own Beef: Tell your guests to bring whatever meat they want to eat. Appoint two or three Grill Masters and grill away. That prevents one person from standing over the grill and missing the whole game. Better yet, put a TV outside so the Grill Masters won’t miss a pass or a fumble.
3. Provide the Brats: Cheap yet scrumptious, brats are a full-flavored way to show your guests you really care. Buy the Cheddar Brats. It’s the best delivery method for processed cheese (other than squirting it straight from the can into your mouth).
4. Feed the Sweet Tooth: Grab a couple of containers of chocolate cupcakes… you know… the ones with the little footballs on top. Put them on a nice plate and say you made them from scratch. Hey, a little culinary fib to your tipsy friends won’t hurt! They won’t remember tomorrow, anyway.
Now I realize I left out wings and a crudités platter, but those are simply understood. For the wings, make them mild and provide super hot sauces. Buy a veggie platter and provide extra ranch and blue cheese dressing.
When it comes to drinks, have your guests bring their favorite beverage of choice. If you get a keg, charge $5 for a cup at the door. You might actually make money at your party. Sure takes the sting out of a losing season!
