Magic City Moms

Hi all!

I’m so excited to be blogging!  I feel very high tech…and for me that’s a big deal.  My husband is a computer software consultant, so I leave the technical stuff to him. 

Let me kick off this debut post by introducing myself…My name is Lisa Crane.  It’s Lisa Crane-Hebert actually, but no one can ever get my married name correct, (It’s pronounced A-bear) so I go by my maiden name.  Anyway, I’m a reporter here at NBC13 HD News.  I was most recently working as an anchor and reporter in Atlanta.  Then I had my son, and thought I wanted to be a stay at home mom.  I quit my job in Atlanta and moved back to my home here in the Birmingham area.  I lasted as a SAHM for about 6 months. I quickly realized how incredibly difficult it was…much more so than any tv job I’ve ever had!  I patted myself on the back for staying home for 6 months…and started working here at NBC 13.  (KUDOS to all you SAHMs!!) 

Of course, as all of you working moms know, there’s a whole new set of challenges when you have 2 full-time jobs. I very purposefully chose an early morning shift (I come in at 3 a.m…that means I wake up about 1:30 a.m.!) so my son would only be away from a parent for about 4 hours a day.  This help alleviate my “going back to work” guilt.  As tough as the schedule is for me, it works great for my son so I’ll probably try to keep it a while.  My son, Cruz, is now 15 months old and the apple of my eye! 

I’m what you call a “mature” first-time mom.  Maybe that makes seeing life through his eyes that much sweeter!  I hope this blog will be entertaining and informative.  And I want to hear from all you moms out there, whether you’re working out of the house or in it.  Please feel free to contact me at any time.
