Father’s Day

Cruz is now 26 months old.  I figured its about time we start making those really cute crafty father’s day gifts…you know the macaroni on the paper plate kinds of gifts.  So I had this great idea…I would buy tiles from a home improvement store, get some paint and have Cruz put his hand and footprints on the tiles along with a sweet message and turn them into coasters.  So I spend an entire afternoon running all over town to get all the supplies.  My game plan had to change quickly when I realized after investing in all the paints, that his hands and feet were too large for coasters.  Yes my boy is big for his age!  So we moved from coasters to trivets.  I got home spread everything out on newspaper on the floor and got ready for some great crafty fun.  Cruz, however, did not get the memo.  Turns out he doesn’t particularly like the idea of putting bright colored paints on his body.  Normally I would appreciate his need for neatness, but I know him well enough to know this doesn’t translate to any other part of his life.  He can wear a dirty diaper for days if I’d let him and while he loves baths, he hates the actual bathing.  And here we are, he’s half naked so not to ruin any clothes and I’m giving him permission, even encouraging him to get dirty and he refuses.  After much cajoling, and putting paint all over my own hands, I got some paint on his hand…we got two handprints made and we quickly washed up.  Then when it came to doing his feet…he’d have none of it!  He flatly refused and I could tell no amount of begging would convince him.  I should have known this since he also refuses to let me cut his toe nails.  I’m embarrassed to admit, I haven’t cut them since he was an infant and he didn’t realize what I was doing.  Apparently they just “wear” off, because he doesn’t have long toe nails, they’re just really uneven and ugly…but I digress.
So we get two prints done and I realize this is it.  So I make it work, and now on Father’s Day my hubby will have a beautiful hand made trivet he can cherish for a lifetime.  He need never know how difficult it was to create.
