As the weather gets colder it becomes a fashion issue - how do I look chic and stay warm? My Scoop has some tips to help you be stylish no matter how low the mercury drops.
1. Layers! Layers! Layers! It is essential to dress in
layers: thermal underwear or tights under pants and shirt, paired with sweater and blazer, then add your winter coat and top off the outfit with winter weather accessories:
scarf, gloves, sweater hat. Stick to thin yet warm layers to avoid looking like a bag lady.
2. Scarves are a great way to accessory and look chic.
Find one that matches your outfit so even when you aren’t dressed up like an Eskimo it still works around your neck with your suit.
3. Maximize your boot wearing. Boots are a winter must have that can be worn over tights and over jeans creating a chic look that is oh-so cozy too.
4. Weatherize your leathers. Snow, sleet, and freezing rain are your leathers worst nightmares. Take care of them by winterizing your jackets, boots, and shoes. You can do this on your own by purchasing a spray can of weather protectent or take them to your local shoe repair place and they can do it for you.
5. Stick to thin yet warm fabrics like wool, cashmere, and silk blends.
Avoid cottons and flannels that can be too bulky.
6. Buy thermal underwear like Cuddle Duds which can be found at http://www.barenecessities.com. It is form fitting, thin, and wicks moisture away.
Don’t purchase thermal underwear that will add 10 pounds to your silhouette.
7. Moisturize! Take care of your most important asset your face! The winter weather is the harshest enemy of your skin and cranking up the heat inside only dehydrates your skin even more so get a moisturizer that hydrates your skin.
8. Invest in a great winter coat that can be worn with casual attire like jeans or your business suit. Being prepared for cold weather is much more stylish than not having the proper tools to
9. Do not fear hats. Whether you live in the South and call it a toboggan or in the North and call it a sweater hat embrace the fact that hats can be a flattering look.
After all, keeping your head warm is a necessity not an accessory.
10. Have a go to winter outfit for the bitter cold. Be prepared for ultra cold days and already have an outfit picked out for those occasions think sweater dress with tights, boots, jacket, and long winter coat or thermal underwear under your pants suit with a button up, sweater vest, and jacket with scarf.
