The National Association of Hooper City Alumni (NAHCA) will celebrate its 17th Biennial Reunion. Nona W. Powell – Birmingham Chapter will host the event. The reunion will be held July 31 – August 3, 2008 at the downtown Sheraton Hotel, 2101 Richard Arrington Blvd – Birmingham, AL. The purpose of the occasion is to award scholarships to Jefferson County area high school seniors and to fellowship with the seven (7) other chapters that are located throughout the country. Though the school no longer exists, in order to reflect on its legacy, the national board is publishing a historical book entitled Hooper City High School – A Historical Perspective.
The festivities encompass four (4) days of activities beginning with a Hawaiian Luau Hospitality night on Thursday, followed on Friday by an early morning City Tour. Later that afternoon, a fun-filled Picnic will be held at the Hooper City Recreation Center (on the old school site). Saturday morning, (8:00 a.m.) there will be a Golf Classic, chaired by Lee Gurley, held at the Highland Park Golf Course. The player who makes a hole-1 on the “11th hole” will receive a brand new 2008 vehicle donated by Jordan Frazier of Bessemer Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge Inc. The climax of Saturday will be a semi-formal evening banquet at the Sheraton Ballroom. Guest speaker will be The Honorable Mayor Larry Langford. Also featured will be the renowned coloratura soprano soloist Ms. Bonita Gale Conley. A Sunday Farewell breakfast will end the four day affair. All former students, teachers, and friends are invited to attend.
The reunion is getting close—so close in fact that we’re at “crunch time”. Many of you may still be in the “I Plan to attend” category. Many more of you may not have known about this affair before now. This is an effort to get the word out. So in case you have not signed up yet, it’s not too late. Let this be your “Push” to making a decision to attend and see old friends from days gone by. Frank Robinson is the President of the Nona W. Powell chapter. For additional information contact:
