Zoo Animal of the Month: Rhinos

We take you to the Birmingham Zoo to meet two lovely ladies…Jaboo and her mom, Laptop.  (Laptop’s parents are Mach and Tosh.)  Jaboo gets her name from the Swahili word for “surprise” because the zoo did not know her mom, Laptop, was pregnant!  SURPRISE!  These two are Southern White Rhinos and are native to South Africa.  There are approximately 17,500 in the wild today.  White rhinos are the only social rhinos, meaning they like to travel in herds.  On average the animals weigh between 4,000-6,000 pounds.  The are the second largest land mammal, next to the elephant.
