Brooke Smith leaves the morning show and goes ‘Daytime’
After 6 years of a 3:30 a.m wake up call, I am now snoozing until 6 a.m. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed every second on Today in Alabama. Steph, Rod, Aunie, and Lisa were and are like family. I was very blessed to wake up and hang out with four of my nearest and dearest friends every weekday. Not to mention…all of the wonderful producers and photographers that are behind the scenes. They were part of the reason I got up everyday and came in before the rooster crowed.
I really enjoyed doing traffic. It may seem like a small thing to those who don’t deal with Birmingham traffic on a daily basis…but I like to think I made a small difference and helped a lot of our sweet viewers who live in the outlying areas. I enjoyed being part of the morning routines of so many…and felt like I was part of their families too.
The past few years I’ve also been doing segments on midday. Pets, gardening, fitness, cooking, and community segments are my passion…and that is why I’m so excited about our new show, Daytime Alabama. The show will officially launch on March 2nd and will air between 11:30 a.m. to noon. (Midday will be shortened from 11 to 11:30 a.m.) Daytime will be all about fun…and GOOD news. I’m often asked why I never became a hard news reporter and I always say, “I like to make people laugh and not cry.“ There are so many sad things happening in the world today…things you need to know about…but things that will depress the heck out of you if you let it. So…why let it? We can’t control everything. The only thing we can do is give our cares and worries to God and trust that He will take care of His children. That being said…I trusted in Him and left my safety net of the morning show and made the leap into Daytime. I am so excited about this opportunity and hope that all of you will support me in this new venture.
Thank you for letting me be part of your morning family for almost 6 years…now let me be part of your lunch break.

Brooke, I’ve missed you the last several days. I decided to Google you and saw the information about the change. I wish you great success and happiness, but will still miss you. I’ve watched you since I’ll miss you at 6:00 a.m. (although I know you won’t miss it).
Brooke!
So you are embarking upon a new adventure! Remember my email of over a year ago about your comment on winning the lottery—or a lot of money, and you replied: The first thing I’d so is TITHE! I have been a fan since you were a contestant on Bachelor, followed your growth as a reporter and will continue to watch your career. You are a real testiment to your faith in God; a constant inspiration to many and to me in particular.
Brooke, Congratulations on your new assignment. I know you will do well. I miss you doing the traffic, you always did a very good job and I NEVER left home (6:30 am) until I heard your traffic report!
God Bless you for all you do!
Will miss you on the Morning Show and I wish you the very best on the Daytime Show…I work during those hours and will not be able to see you as often but I know that you, along with God’s help, will be awesome!
Brooke that’s great news! Best wishes on the new show!
