Have a Bewitchingly Bargain-Friendly Harry Potter Weekend!
Associated Press
Ahh, the tale of the boy wizard, the boy who lived! Yes, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” has already hit the theaters! Yes, I went to see it at midnight Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. Of course I absolutely loved it! But it’s time for the weekend ... and I have a few ideas on how to have a great Harry Potter weekend ... without going broke!
My first tip will always be to go see a matinee! You’re always going to save some money by going earlier. Just make sure you check with the theater for the showtimes ... and ESPECIALLY what time each theater considers a matinee! I’ve gone to some theaters that set the latest matinee time differently depending on if you’re going on a weekend versus a weekday. Use these links to check your listings: Regal, Carmike, Rave, AMC, or Premiere. But as always, remember the conession counter is always the bargain breaker!
If you just HAVE to see the movie at night, my next piece of advice is hit the drive-in! I know there aren’t as many options, but they’re tons of fun! The down side is that Half-Blood Prince isn’t showing this weekend at the drive-in theaters I checked. I’m sure it’ll hit them eventually ... you’ll just have to wait for it. But just for future reference, I’m including links to three different locations: one in Argo, one in Cleveland, and one near Boaz. Most drive-ins charge by the carload, not per person. I did note that the one in Hayden IS a “per person” location. Another good thing about the drive-in: while most DO have a concession stand, you can easily load up the car with plenty of snacks from home ... at a much lower price!
One more additional bit of fun for your Harry Potter weekend: watch movies 1-5 at home! Remind yourself how Harry, Ron, and Hermione got to this point! If you don’t happen to own the movies already, head out to your local movie rental place and pick them up ... or try to get them through Netflix! I already searched Redbox to see if they’re available, and I didn’t see them. Once you’ve got your movies, invite your friends over for “Harry Potter Night” and enjoy them in the comfort of your own home ... with the food of your choice, at the PRICE of your choice!
You should be set for some bargain “Harry Potter” fun of your own! So pull out the films, practice your Patronus, and catch a ride on the Hogwarts Express to continue the journey of the Boy Who Lived! And remember, if you have any topics you want me to cover, me or follow me on Twitter!
