A Bargain-Hunter’s Scavenger Hunt: Thrift Stores!
Associated Press
You’ll rarely find something brand new at my favorite place to shop. Someone else has almost always owned everything in there, but you’ll rarely ever find the same thing twice when you go in. I absoutely love going to thrift stores!
Now, don’t turn your nose up. I’m not saying EVERYTHING is a great find. To me, a trip to the thrift store is like a scavenger hunt. You can’t just run in and run out. You have to block out some time and DIG ... but I find someting great just about every time I go in. A couple of examples: I’ve found adorable (barely used) purses for $2-$3 each. Once I even found a couple of skirts from The Limited and Express brand new with the tags for less than $5 each.
Another plus: the profits for many thrift stores go to a charity, like the Salvation Army. I’m much more willing to part with the money by saying it’s going to a good cause! On the flip side: if my family has some clothes we’ve outgrown or some housewares we don’t use anymore, we can donate them to the thrift stores too. That way, when they’re sold, the non-profit gets extra money ... and by donating it, you get a receipt that makes it deductible on that year’s taxes.
I know this one’s short and sweet, but I really think a trip to the thrift store will sell you! I can’t wait to hear about your thrift store savings! And don’t forget, if you have a topic you want me to investigate, be sure to me and follow me on Twitter!
And by the way, here’s a link for some Birmingham-area thrift stores and consignment shops!
