McCain: Obama must drop ‘public option’

WASHINGTON (AP) — Sen. John McCain says President Barack Obama will have to drop proposals for a government-run health insurance option if he hopes to reach congressional agreement on health-care reform.

McCain says many Americans are losing confidence in Obama partly because of concerns about the so-called public option. The Arizona Republican proposed that Obama meet with members of both parties in Congress to find areas of agreement, abandon the public option, and then make clear exactly what he wants in the legislation.

McCain said that right now Obama is simply leaving it to Congress to decide the details and that isn’t enough. He maintains that Republicans are willing to sit down with the president and talk about various reforms.

McCain spoke in an interview for broadcast Sunday on ABC’s “This Week.“

I wonder if so many people who are against socialized medicine know the definition of Medicare (a program many senior citizen participate in).

I concur 100% with Senator John McCain on the healthcare issue and what the President needs to consider if we are to approve a healthcare reform for the United States of America. I’m a Republican, a vietnam veteran, and senior citizen, that does not approve in socialized medicine, nor do I desire to experience our nation as a socialist country. Many Americans have fought and died to keep America free of choice and to ensure we have on nation under God that is indivisible with liberty for all. I found that portions of the Obama medical care was acceptable, but some lead us in the wrong direction for our country. God bless you John McCain for your decision on this giant step in Americans lives. Freedom may she always ring loud in our nation.

Sincerely, and Respectfully,
Michael Rayford Powell
