School Board candidate is high school dropout
Birmingham School Board candidate is high school...
sot: candidate, websites, this is a gem of a story... even if you don't run it, watch it.
Antwon Womack Campaign website
Antwon Womack is running for the District Six seat on the Birmingham School Board. He’s one of three challengers to incumbent W.J. Maye. In documents and on campaign websites, Womack said he was both a high school and college graduate, turns out he has neither—-and—-he doesn’t have his GED.
Birmingham School Board Candidate Antwon Womack said, “Currently right now, I am, I am not too far from getting my GED.“
That’s Antwon Womack, a District 6 Birmingham School Board candidate, admitting he wasn’t quite honest about his education.
Womack said, “I still believe I can bring assets to the school board in spite of the allegations.“
Some of those “assets” he listed on a campaign website we now know to be false. For education, he listed he had graduated from West End High School with an elementary education degree from Alabama A&M.
Womack said, “I did say that I was a graduate of West End High School that is false. I am not. Back in 2004 , I had dropped out of high school at Wenonah High School, at that time I was dealing with a whole lot of family issues.“
Now, the young man who also ran for Mayor of Tarrant and who currently advertises “Education Does Matter” on a website, is apologizing for making mistakes…
Womack said, “As I said, I made a mistake, I don’t want to be scrutinized for it. After this day, I don’t want to hear about this no more, because I am going to clear it up with my attorney.“
While Womack wouldn’t say why he has an attorney, he did say he doesn’t plan to drop out of the race for school board.
Birmingham residents head to the polls to vote for school board and city council candidates August 25th.

Reader Reactions
Today I read that he has dropped out of the race. The ole saying, “if you can’t stant the heat, get out of the kitchen” seems to fit. Public figures live in a fish bowl Antwon.
Antwon, Really?
Your race nor your gender or any other demographic entitles you to lie and expect the community to overlook this issue. The absolute gall that first you lie, and second, you will ‘let your attorney’ handle the issue. On top of that, you made an excuse as to why you did not complete high school. The term is called accountability. We don’t need to know why, we just need to know that you didn’t. Is there a reason we would want someone on our Board of Education who does not seem to know right from wrong (indicating a lack of moral character) and is perceived not to have a very good command of grammar and proper speech. Perception is everything. I personally would like to see respectable honest citizens on the Board because these people make decisions that impact our children and thus future leaders. The smartest thing you could do right now is bow out of the race and admit you were wrong. Maybe then you could actually have impact on the children of our community by admiting deceit and asking for forgiveness with dignity. As citizens of this city, county and state, we hang our heads in shame for the ignorance that seems to abound with no end in sight. Rise above and set a good example!
You haven’t heard the last of Anton Womack! All he needs to do is visit a few churches, fabricate an emotional story about “Just trying to BE somebody” or “Just trying to HELP our young people” - he’s a shoe-in. Anton, you can do anything you want in this life. One day, you could even be mayor of Birmingham - don’t ever give up! And to the rest of Birmingham - good luck to you! That’s me whistling as I stroll into the sunset.
OMG! How could anyone think of electing him for anything, let alone the School Board. Are we sure he isn’t in some way related to our Mayor? They seem to both have some of the same characteristics.
If you do not wish to be scrutinized, pick another line of work! Politicians are and should be highly scrutinized, we have been guilty of not paying attention to what our leaders are doing for far too long!
He sould skip over the school board and move onto the county commision he would be better than what we have now at least hw admits he is lying. I hear there might be an opening for a Mayor soon.
“family issues” caused him in his attempt to deceive the voting public? Says at first he has both a DIPLOMA from high school AND college? Gee, just what the voters need now; a liar leading the way for the education of the children…wow! What an example he will be! And he cant even post his correct age? Oh, “his attorney” is going to straighten it out? And his interview skills…education shows here too…he cant even conjugate verbs or put together a sentence that makes some truthful sense! DOUBLE TALKER; Liar. And, he is so proud of his ability to mislead the public…just like some other politicians who are about to take a tunble. Stay out of politics; you now are known as what you are: a liar.
Let me just say to Mr. Womack…if you’re admitting to the lies then they are not allegations. Allegations are things that you are being accused of. Once you admit to it then they become facts. Second, I don’t think that you get to choose for the media to drop the subject. When someone running for office claims one thing and it is revealed that they lied, then that’s going to be talked about for a while whether you want them to or not. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors, but I don’t think that a career in politics is for you. If you can’t tell the truth at your young age, then I hate to think about what a lying and crooked politician that you may one day become.
A liar, and one who is also incapable of forming a sentence in proper English when interviewed? Yes, you are right - education does matter.
Embellishment is one word used, falsifying his credentials would be more accurate. This man lied and got caught! Most employers would place his application in file 13.
