It’s a night filled with priceless memories, but getting there could cost a pretty penny.
With many people tightening their financial belts, some are finding ways to do prom on the cheap.
The perfect prom dress usually comes with a not so pretty price tag.
But in this recession, many parents are pulling the plug and retailers are responding.
“We have footwear from $50 to $80, handbags from $18.-$25., as well and the dresses, short or long are $50. TO $180,“ said Patricia McCune with JC Penney.
Penney’s head-to-toe prom collection costs under $200.
Some JC Penney stores also have salons and they are offering prom deals for girls who want to get their hair done.
Arriving in style has always been a mark of prom night.
Captain Limousines is one of many limo companies offering discounts.
“We’re providing kids discounts on limos through signing a pledge, and the pledge is a prom promise, saying I won’t use drugs or alcohol on prom night” said Matt Van Alstyne of Captain Limousines.
The discount is $5. per student, which in a 32 person vehicle that’s a saving of $160.
All of this is proof that prom night can still be magical without a monstrous price tag.
