Video: JeffCo Commission approves $12 meter fee

JEFFERSON CO. Ala—On Tuesday, the Jefferson County Commission voted 3-2 to impose a $12 processing fee on all private water meters credit applications in Jefferson County. Commission President Bettye Fine Collins along with Commissioners William Bell and Shelia Smoot voted in favor of the measure while Commissioner Jim Carns and Bobby Humphryes voted against the action. Commissioner Jim Carns told NBC 13 HD News that the measure is an ongoing fee that will be imposed everytime a user submits an application for a private meter credit.
At Tuesday’s commission meeting, Commission President Bettye Fine Collins said the new fee will generate anywhere from $100,000 to $400,000 for the county annually.
