Jury reaches verdict in John Katopodis fraud trial
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—- The jury in the John Katopodis federal fraud trial has indicated that they have reached a verdict after 8 hours of deliberations.
Katopodis faces a 97-count indictment, including mail and wire fraud charges.
He also faces an additional forfeiture charge if convicted of previous charges, demanding Katopodis surrender up to $250,000 in proceeds traced to acts which the jury finds him guilty.
Prosecutors claim Katopodis misused tax money set aside to provide computers to needy children.
Katopodis argues he spent his own money he personally deposited in the Computer Help for Kids charity bank account.
