Two Men Sentenced In Armed Robbery Of McCalla Post Office

Two men were convicted and sentenced in an armed robbery of a post office in McCalla.
According to a news release from the United States Postal Inspection Service, Christopher LaFrance Smith, 36, and Brad Lamont Smith, 32, were sentenced to 59 years and 3 months in federal prison.
They were convicted Thursday, August 21, 2008, in federal court.
On October 27, 2006, Smith and Smith forced their way into the McCalla Post Office to commit robbery.
Postal customers and employees were tied up, and two vehicles belonging to customers were stolen as getaway cars.
Smith and Smith were convicted on four charges: one count of armed robbery, two counts of a gun used in a crime of violence, and a count for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
There is no parole in the federal criminal justice system.
