BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A Jefferson County judge has set a trial
date of Oct. 5 for Scott Lamar Abbott, who is charged with capital
murder in the killings of four people in a Hueytown house.
The 24-year-old Abbott pleaded innocent on Tuesday in the March
7 killings of 31-year-old William Chad Gilbert, 27-year-old Jeri
Lynn Cole, 24-year-old Nika Sandlin and 26-year-old Joshua Gilleo.
Hueytown police say they believe a soured relationship drove
Abbott to break into a house and stab to death the four people
inside. Authorities say one of the victims was Abbott’s
ex-girlfriend.
Defense attorney Yusef Olufemi says he will file a motion within
35 days requesting his client receive a mental evaluation to stand
trial.
