HOMEWOOD, Ala—More than a thousand adoring fans waited hours to meet former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin in Birmingham.

Palin signed copies of her book “Going Rogue” at Brookwood mall last night.

In many ways, the former candidate for vice president is the brightest star in the Republican Party.

Fans like her politics, but also find her to be a fresh voice on the national scene.

“I think she seems very genuine and will say what she’s thinking and doesn’t seem like she has an agenda, so she’s a little different from a lot of politicians we see these days,” Gretchen McElveen said.

Palin signed books for three hours with family members, including daughter Piper, by her side.
