The New Calera High School Is Just About Ready
From Linda White:
It’s moving in day at Calera High School in Shelby County. The 25 million dollar facility will be ready just in time for students August 7th.
Taking the lead - one-time Hoover High School Principal, Richard Bishop - fired during the Rush Probst scandal.
Richard Bishop/Calera High School Principal said, “It’s my first opportunity in 26 years, to open a new school.“
There will be plenty of new faces, besides his. Soon to be 10th grader, Tierra Coleman will also be new. Coleman and her family moved here from Jefferson County.
James Coleman/Tierra’s Dad said, “This is a fantastic building. We’ve had the opportunity to look at the school from the outside. It’s great to have the opportunity to come inside and see the building as well and the facilities that our housed here in the school.“
Calera High School also has a state of the art distance learning center. Governor Riley just announced today that the state is ahead of schedule, on these classrooms in our state’s high schools.
The school’s athletic director described the difference between the old school and the new one as big versus small.
Robert Burdette/Athletic Director & Basketball Coach said, “I don’t think there’s anyone living in Calera who’s not excited about our new facility.“
An exciting and fresh start for everyone…
Bishop said, “As far as looking back, I have no regrets. Everything is in the future, looking forward, it is a wonderful opportunity.“
A ribbon cutting ceremony for the new school will be held August 2nd.
