Two people have been arrested on charges of smuggling pills into Jefferson County.
On June 1, 2009 the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Narcotics Division, while conducting a narcotics investigation discovered information that Desmond Smith of Birmingham and April Henderson of Fairfield were arriving on a Greyhound Bus in Birmingham with illegal narcotics in their possession.
Both suspects were identified as they left the bus and both were found to be in possession of a large amount of Dilaudid (Hydromphone) pills.
Desmond Smith was found to be in possession of approximately 1,300 pills and April Henderson was found to be in possession of approximately 1,800 pills for a total street value of approximately $160,000.
Smith has an extensive drug arrest history going back to the late 1990s.
This was a significant amount of illegal narcotics destined for the streets of Jefferson County.
Desmond DeWayne Smith is charged with Trafficking in Narcotics, and has a $1,000,000 Bond
April Martin Henderson is charged with Trafficking in Narcotics and has a $1,000,000 Bond
Both remain in the Jefferson County Jail.
