Summit gears up for slumping holiday sales
BIRMINGHAM, Ala—-It may be hard to believe, but we are five weeks away from Christmas!
This year retailers fear they could be in for a Halloween-style Christmas, not so much jolly as scary. After what’s being called “simply awful” October sales the international council of shopping centers reduced its already low holiday forecast.
It projects sales will be at best up a meager one percent. Local malls are doing everything they can to attract shoppers. At the summit there is a weekly firework show on Fridays at 7p.m.
“It’s not all doom and gloom it is a tough economy we have been have good stewards and we feel we are well positioned this holiday season,” said Summit mall manager Joy Ryder.
Black Friday about week away—- many are gearing up to save more while shopping. The summit’s extended holiday hours begin Friday December 12.
