A Huffman High School student has been suspended after setting a fire on campus.

The Birmingham Fire Department responded to the fire call at the school just before 9 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Michaelle Chapman, spokesperson for Birmingham City Schools, said the student set fire to a poster board which was taped to a door, charring the door and causing smoke.

Students were evacuated from the building to the auditorium for about an hour while the fire department secured the area.  There were no injuries.

The student is charged with a Class 3 violation, faces a disciplinary hearing and possible explusion.
