The Dothan Police Bomb Squad has removed and detonated a pipe bomb from the parking lot behind Dothan High School in a situation that lasted more than three hours. Bomb Squad Commander Lt. Keith Gray said the bomb may have been diffused when he and his team arrived at the scene.

Gray said a man notified authorities that he was bringing a pipe bomb he had diffused to the parking lot at the school. He said authorities talked to the man, who was not identified, and determined he probably knew what he was talking about.

Authorities used a robot to retrieve the pipe bomb from the front seat of the car, took it to a remote location and detonated it inside a containment unit.

Gray said police investigators will handle determining suspects and examining the evidence.
