According to AAA, parents are unaware of the crash risk for younger teens.  Parents also allow their children to ride in cars under dangerous conditions, for example riding with teen friends.

When its time for your teens to get behind the wheel do you have any ground rules?

Parent, Janet Lamar said, “They didn’t get to drive at night, never.“

Parent, Tobey Wallace said, “No texting or talking while driving.“

Lamar said, “They were not allowed to drive with a new driver like a 16 year old.“

Wallace said, “Pretty much to be sure that she doesn’t have a carload of people friends be limited on how many people ridin’ with her.“

A new AAA survey indicates, some parents know the right answers when it comes to the dangers their teens face behind the wheel, but don’t always put them into action.  Nearly half of those surveyed 46%, knowingly allow their kids to ride with other teens.

Parents may be able to keep their kids safe by talking to them about the rules of driving before they even hit the road.  Research shows the risk of a crash increases significantly starting at the age of 12.

AAA Spokesperson, Clay Ingram said, “And so we just want to pass that information along to these parents, so they can make informed intelligent decisions about who their teen driver rides with.“

Other dangers include teens driving at night, riding with other teens and when teens don’t recognize that a situation isn’t safe.  A parent-teen driving contract may be able to help you both discuss those situations and get your teen to obey the rules when driving alone.
And then there’s this…

Wallace said, “Pray for her of course, she’s pretty responsible as a teenager, I’m pretty proud of her so hopefully, she’ll use the same responsibilities when she’s driving.“
