Multiple law enforcement agencies are now investigating what officers call a “horrifying scene.“

Wednesday night around 6 p.m., officers discovered the bodies of 5 men in the living room of an apartment in Cahaba Lakes, which is off Highway 280 and Valleydale.

Detectives, forensic experts and coroners spent all night combing the apartment in the Buckhorn Cove area. They’re trying to determine who the victims are, how they died and when they died.

Sheriff Chris Curry says he called in multiple agencies to help with this case so there would be easy access to a variety of experts.

“We’d much rather be prepared for any eventuality that not be. Something of this magnitude is horrific. That’s why we responded like we did,“ says Curry.

The Hoover Police Department, Shelby County District Attorney’s Office, Shelby County Coroner’s Office, Alabama Department of Public Safety including the Alabama Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Marshal’s Service, the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force and the FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force are all assisting with the case.

The Pelham Police Department is taking any new calls coming in to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office so deputies can focus on this case and ensuring the safety of other Cahaba Lakes residents.

Right now, Curry isn’t commenting on suspects, motive or if this was an isolated incident.

Only Cahaba Lakes residents are allowed inside the complex.

Officers came to the apartment Wednesday after receiving a call from a concerned person who couldn’t get an answer after knocking on the apartment’s door.

It took officers almost an hour to get inside because the apartment’s door was locked and a key wouldn’t work.

The apartment was sparsely furnished.
