MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - A second littoral combat ship to be built at
Austal USA’s shipyard in Mobile will cost at least $547.7 million.
The Navy’s Sea Systems Command released the figure Thursday.
The actual price of the contract awarded in May is $433.7
million, but that doesn’t include $114 million worth of work and
material left over from a previous ship order that was canceled.
The contract price also doesn’t cover undisclosed costs of
government-furnished equipment, change orders and program
management support.
The Press-Register reports a command spokesman said the Navy
won’t make those numbers public because they are considered
business-sensitive.
Austal is building the close-to-shore warship as part of a team
led by Virginia-based General Dynamics Corp.
The Navy had initially refused to make the contract price
public.
